More About Anne Maraviglia

Anne Maraviglia is a ceramic artist based in rural Illinois. After completing her Master’s Degree in Ceramics, she received a Japanese Fulbright Alumni fellowship that gave her the opportunity to spend three years studying and working at a traditional ceramic studio near Shimonoseki, Japan. There, master ceramicist Kaoru Fujimoto shared his knowledge of forming, glazing, and firing ceramics. When Anne returned to the United States, she brought with her a traditional Japanese kick wheel, inspiration from her time in Japan, and the name for her own studio, Flying Plumtree. Today, Anne fires her work using a combination of gas and wood fuel. Her nontoxic glazes are primarily formulated with wood ash, carrying forward the craftsmanship and spirit that have shaped her ceramic practice.
