More About Matt Conlon

Matt Conlon is an artist based in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood whose lifelong creative practice spans visual art and more than five decades in theater. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Matt earned his BFA from California Institute of the Arts and an MA from Loyola Marymount University before moving to Chicago in 1985. His artwork reflects a deep love of color, which he traces in part to his grandfather, Dr. Herbert T. Kalmus, inventor and longtime president of Technicolor. Inspired by the emotional power of both color and music, Matt draws influence from Impressionist artists such as Monet and Renoir and Abstract artists including Rothko and Klee. After joining Blick Art Materials in Evanston, Matt found more time to devote to drawing and became known for demonstrating markers, pens, and pencils through workshops and demos. Today, he continues creating expressive, colorful work across a wide range of subjects.
